I don't think that hole should be there

The Boy has a Jeep. I think I've mentioned that before.

This is a picture from a happier day when he was playing with some artificial hills.

(By the way, he named his Jeep "Jude" after that famous Beatles song, "Yellow Submarine.")

The other day The Boy was driving along on a busy street when there was a loud noise and his rear wheels locked up and refused to roll anymore. Realizing that sitting in the middle of the road was not safe, he wisely thought to put it in four wheel drive and managed to get it off to the side of the road. He then got out to see if he could spot the problem.

When he looked at the back of his differential, he saw this. The Boy is in his third or so year of auto mechanics school. I haven't gone to auto mechanics school at all, but even I would feel fairly comfortable saying "I don't think that hole should be there."

He had Jude towed home, removed the differential cover, and this is what it looked like inside. Some of those things look vaguely like gears, and there's a round shiny thing that looks way out of place. Honestly, I have no idea what I'm looking at.

I don't know what this thing is called, but I'm pretty sure it shouldn't look like this.

In any case, Jude is now so tired and spoiling the party while The Boy orders various bits and pieces to fix the hole. It's going to be a long and winding road, but Jude will come out of this all together now.

Because, that's why.

That's it - move along...

PS: The Blog apologizes to any Beatles fans there might be out there. He should never do these things when he is tired. They tend to go all helter skelter on him.

PPS: The Blog would also like to point out that spell check thinks "helter" is spelled wrong, but is perfectly happy with "skelter." What is a skelter?

I not only don't know what that thing is but am not sure a hole in it would be such a bad thing. Maybe it needs to breathe.

The first several months of my site there were no comments; just give it time; now they come in like crazy every day! Thanks.
